Bearing covers have been around for a while and are used in other industrial applications. The biggest problem with covers in the kart racing market is that the inner race/hub and opening dimensions vary, which creates the problem of “I have covers but they don’t fit†Even distributors that sell these covers are never sure whether the bearing covers will fit and even a reorder later for a replacement bearings may yield a cover that doesn’t fit. E-Z Bore offers a replacement bearing with matching cover – these are 1 ¼†extra free spinning premium oil filled #UC207- bearings. We have removed hub side shield and seal. Assemble bearings with the proper covers to eliminate fit and drag problems. This bearing also includes retaining button head bolts that can be used to lock bearing to axle or positioned so that button head bolt only locks the covers, allowing bearing to float on axle shaft. There’s much conversation about more expensive exotic type bearings and materials, but the bottom line is you need to start a good maintenance program before spending that extra money. Bearing maintenance would require after a race weekend that covers are removed and bearings cleaned, flushed clear of dirt and debris using an aerosol brake or carburetor cleaner. Once flushed with cleaner, continue flushing bearing with some compressed air and a light weight lubricant such as WD-40. We recommend a final lubricant like Tri-Flow. For those of you new to the sport look at your back axle carefully, spin it and be sure it rolls free — don’t forget your clutch and chain have a big part in how free your rear axle rolls. Replace the chain if it’s been on longer than a season. Sometimes drag can be as simple as having your chain too tight.
